Smart use of bookmarks to promote magazines

I like the bookmarks being used by Bauer in the current issues of Good Health and women’s fitness as they are a smart way to promote the issue.

That said, I would not like to see the bookmarks overused. They partially cover the magazine behind and this is not fair on that title. Look at women’s fitness – the main cover headline shows as Your … the key message is covered.

Occasionally the bookmarks would be okay but not every issue.

Vogue Australia came in on Monday with
    this “bookmark” type insert.
The magazine was so poorly packed that
EVERY bookmark was ripped through with
strapping because it wasn’t done carefully
    with the product protected.
Consequently, I had to remove ALL the inserts to enable the product to go to my
    shelves looking like new product.

I have spoken about this issue before and it just gets worse.
I would be furious if I was the publisher of
the insert who had paid so much for it to be included with every Vogue Aust mag this month.

We get the same thing here June, most mags with add ons are demolished by the time we get them so are either useless to sell or have to be removed.

I often wonder is publishers understand what physically happens to their product on the way to the consumer.

the strapping rips add-ons, larger format mags are creased, bags are scrunched, thrown from trucks and hit the ground wet, gravel rash etc.

its one hell of a ride for their baby, and they pay the distributor to do it.
