$1.20 is still to cheap, not even close to what it should be.

Went from 80c to 90c in 1998. That was the last actual cover price increase.

We were hoping for at least $1.30.
Our local paper is $1.60 three times a week. It is getting thinner by the day yet we still sell plenty of copies.
Some customers will complain no matter what the increase is but then it’s business as usual.

I found it annoying that they revealed the increase in an advertisement on Monday, before they informed newsagents.

Same as the Kids book Promotion they advertised 10 days ago meant to be starting this Sunday. No Stock no information – why should we worry for 10c commission. Talk about mushrooms.

Off this topic sorry but i see the CM is doing the kids books next week and coles and woolies are also participating in it . I have not seen this happen before and i am quite P$%ssed about it . We have to do all the handling of the books supply return deliver collect count them all out for what 5% . What is 5% who does any work in this country for 5% of a net sale of $2

What gets me is that News pontificates about fairness, economics and other issues on its pages yet when it comes to these things and their dealings with small business newsagents it fails.

ShaunS, we had a HUGE response to the pack of 12 kids books. Although the Safeway near us participated, it was luke-warm and they returned plenty. We worked really hard to sell complete sets to everyone and sold every last one plus back-orders, it did wonders for our reputation for customer service compared to the supermarkets ( and also other nearby newsagents who don’t like series and partworks etc) Sold every last Aussie Day hat too, from both the Tele and the Herald Sun. Both were good promos for foot traffic.

Sold out of telegraphs before 10.30 am.
Phone the subscription line as you are meant to do. Announcement -no more DT or Aussies available today – Thursday blah blah blah.. And they wonder why they are having trouble. If I have none to sell I cant make you any money…

H i could not give away the australia day hats this time round , every other year with the bucket hats every one wanted them not so this year i will be sinding almost 100% of them back . Also goes the same with the servo returns they only got rid of a couple . Over all i would say it must have been a failure because they extended it for an extra week .

Are any other NSW agents still having problems with teacher subscriptions ( others as well). Going by the website … names not there, 7 day subs listed as 2 days, subs paid in November / December not there. Phone calls to telegraph not answered, emails not replied to. Tempted to stop all telegraph subscription deliveries and see what happens.

Yes Max, having the same problems. Our rep is trying to help but has no info on teachers and says there is a huge wait.
It takes me at least 20 mins to get thru to customer service by phone only to be told they have only 4 people working and can only discuss a couple of subscriptions because other people are waiting.
We are telling teachers to phone themselves which is something we have never had to do before.
If I was a customer calling to take up a new home delivery subscription I don’t know that I’d bother waiting so long.

We also have problems with Teachers subs.On advise from our rep we have not started any without confirmation by fax. But I have noticed a couple have come up on the online subscibers list but no fax confirmation. I waited to get through to subscritions 4 times for a total of 3 hours with no joy, so I am advising teacher to follow up themselves.
Also notice the price goes up so our friends at News then run a double page add about how to save money by taking out a subscription.
