Newspaper publishers cutting circulation jobs?

I have heard from several newsagents of more redundancies at Fairfax and News businesses – in the circulation area, the part of a publishing business that deals with newsagents the most.  One report has the entire circulation department of one News Limited capital city operation being closed with responsibility transferring to Sydney.

Yesterday, Seven West Media announced 100 jobs are to go at The West Australian.

I Used to hold 6 accounts for Faifax Local papers and the land. This has been reduced to one account weekly out of Richmond who also now handle all returns. I have already seen people disappear from Fairfax and I suggest these arrangements with Richmond will see the demise of more.

IPS is also out of Richmond.

I can not help but wonder if and when the SMH will come under Richmond’s banner.

My News Ltd rep told me they had a meeting and their will be redundancies in circulation, with some functions transferring to Sydney. My rep does not know how secure their own job is.

It was in the news yesterday that the West Australian is cutting 100 jobs next month, including 30 editorial staff.
Thats a huge cut. Wonder where else they are heading, online maybe…?

Another News person now has suggested to me that they are closing the circ. dept. in one state and moving it to Sydney.

Seems like they let go of the proof-readers too. The front page of the Herald Sun:
