US PCWorld magazine shuts print edition

After more than thirty years in print, venerable US general computer magazine PCWorld is to close the print edition to focus on digital. Time has the story including some excellent background including speculation that it’s the end of computer magazines.

    Yes, computer magazines have faded dreadfully, but we are filling the space with How to Use your Digital Device or New Program mags,
    these and the Photography section are quite strong,

    Photography is increasing for us too but it would want to with the number of titles now sent to us. Computer magazines have plumeted and it seems natural that they would take the big hit from online publications. Automotive is also in decline for us but we don’t know why. Is any one else experiencing this decline?

    Interesting comment on the automotive category. I have just completed a full magazine sales review for my store and automotive has held up quite well by comparison to last year. However within the category, the “Just” titles (Cars, Parts etc) are down but tiles like Wheels, Motor, Classic Cars have held their own. I dont think the future is terribly good for the buy sell type titles given where the internet is on this sort of stuff.
