Tapping into the Game of Thrones obsession

empirepromoWe have a pocket of Empire magazine with weekly magazines, next to TV Week because of the Game of Thrones cover. This is an excellent opportunity to drive impulse purchases of the title from shoppers who would not otherwise see it. Game of Thrones is huge – apparently.

Apparently!!! Mark, I was sceptical but watched the first episode and thus watched the last 3 series in a month to catch up before #4 started! Awesome and a real cult show. The empire shown above with John Snow on the cover we put in a premium spot at the counter and it sold out! I recommend watching it

I’m surprised you’ve never seen it. Great show.

To give people an idea of how popular it is here – Australia has more illegal downloads of GOT than any other country in the world. It made news headlines when Foxtel signed an exclusive deal to create an effective monopoly on legal access to it.

If you’ve ever seen memes on Facebook or Twitter of a throne made of swords or the words “winter is coming” – that’s GOT.

Part of its wide appeal is that is has a huge cast with a large range of characters and an abundance of story lines. The sex, blood, violence and power struggles might also play a part!

Strap yourself in and watch it over the long weekend Mark.
