Tyro – small business focussed banking

I spent yesterday at Tyro in Sydney hearing about small business focussed innovations in the banking and EFTPOS areas. Yesterday’s session to POS software companies was the culmination in months of work by Tyro on new products. I am grateful to Tyro for the opportunities to discuss these products as they were being developed over the months, leading up to yesterday.

The Xero integration is particularly beneficial as it eliminated double handling, saving time and cutting mistakes.

At the heart of the Xero integration is the Tyro smart account. The terms associated with this account are better what small businesses usually see from the major banks. This account also facilitates quickly approved unsecured financing for small businesses. I think this will interest newsagents evolving their businesses.

Here is a video released yesterday sipping through the Xero integration.

Just in case you think this post is an ad, it is not as what I have written about is available to any of the Tyro POS software partners and the Xero interface is available to any of the Xero partners.

Unfortunatly their price for a merchant facility
Is not as competitive as it once was. I am changing from
Tyro this month to a big 4 terminal as it is about
    $100 per month cheaper.

Shaun based on the numbers I have seen I suspect you’d be making a mistake. The big banks are scammers in my view. Tyro only deals with small business. I have found them flexible and good listeners. It all depends if you ask for consideration. I bet they have products you don’t even know about that can save you money.

Thanks mark, I actually asked them twice and they did drop a little both times it’s still about $100 per month cheaper with the new offer.
I sent the new offer details for them to see what I am comparing with. It seems that their pricing is ex GST and plus a terminal rental which makes up the extra $100. The break free for the bank unit is $100 which will be saved after one Month.

Mike check with your POS software company as they can escalate queries like this.

tyro told me they would not match the rate from my bank(which is still expensive), in the end TYRO were more EXPENSIVE than the bank and TYRO are not good listeners. Talk to all banks even the small one before approaching TYRO. ITS just a start up company who doest know what expensive fee in banking is?

Ken I wish you have been at the briefing I attended Wednesday as the Tyro you claim exists and what I saw could not be more different.

The Xero link is interesting. Xero is a good product but emphasising links to it can give impression connectivity with other products is not so good. And if you are changing banks do you even want to consider changing accounting software.

On reliabilty I cannot fault Tyro. But on the occassions I have called on fees and account arrangements I have been disappointed . None returned calls and ill informed staff have left me with impression Tyro are no better than the banks.

$25.00 a week is one sale of a $50.00 gift item to cover the difference in the fees. I personally could not go back to any bank EFTPOS purely just for the speed that TYRO offers. I was out and about shopping yesterday and could not believe how slooowwww some EFTPOS units were. We do an extraordinary amount of EFTPOS sales per week and there is no way I am going to slow things down. TYRO being integrated has also removed the “keying” errors. As far as the TYRO staff are concerned I have never had any problems, they have always been more than willing to help.

For the sake of a few dollars a day I will be sticking with my super fast, super safe, TYRO units.

Was wondering if anyone who has Tyro is having trouble getting their eftpos from the weekend. Tyro says its a mastercard/visa card issue. They can’t say when we will get our money. Makes the lotto sweep later on this afternoon a bit of a thrill.
