ALNA agitates on sports lottery on behalf of newsagents

As the federal government continues to let small business newsagents down with its proposed new sports lottery, ALNA has achieved good media coverage on the topic. Check out these stories from The Australian and the Herald Sun.

The government announced the sport lottery but appears to have not done much since. In the meantime, small business newsagents are left in the dark, again.

An Olympic Lottery misses the point on UK sports funding. It is not the source of the funds that has brought success, but more the ruthless allocation of funds to only those sports where success is achievable. And as Aus lotteries are structured at state level, the notion of a nation wide lottery is just a “thought bubble”.

ALNA needs to build on the success in WA by picking off another state for fair treatment of small businesses. Lobbying the Federal Govt is a waste of resources. Better to isolate the state govts and get them to concede one by one.

This whole thing from the government appears to have not been thought through and here we are, long after the initial announcement, and we know nothing more.
