Anzac Day

Looking online for resources respectful of Anzac Day, I found this video. it is of a song, ‘On Every Anzac Day’. It was launched a few years ago at the Australian War Memorial during a performance by the song’s creator (John Schumann OAM) who wrote the renowned military tribute I was only 19. This post is about respecting, not celebrating.

    Factory Worker,
I know a hell of of lot of people who do care about ANZAC day. Nobody talks about celebrating ANZAC DAY. There is a big difference between celebrating and commemorating. Those people do not all go to ANZAC services but they respect those who fought to retain our freedoms for us and today they think about those sacrifices made. If you dont care about ANZAC DAY that is ok; and it is ok because you live in a country where you have freedom of expression. You are lucky eh?

    Factory Worker.
You have the freedom to speak as you just have because of the soldiers that fought and died for you to do so.
Respect them because they deserve it not condemn the day because of your ignorance shown by the attitude in your comment.

Billy and Graeme, it’s a pity that the ANZAC’s didn’t fight for reading and comprehension skills

Sheesh ‘factory’ of course I am not suggesting it is a party. However, visit any local pub and there is a celebration of sorts, of freedom and democracy. For you I have added three words to the original post.

No you fixed it because you were wrong. And now in your typical way you are going to deflect any criticism by making up some sort of crap where drunks are celebrating “freedom and democracy”.

    Sheesh.

    To Factory Worker,
I wish you would take a visit to one of these places “where drunks are celebrating “freedom and democracy” and poke a bit of your total disrespect at them. Boy you won’t come out alive!
It is obvious that you have nevery been a member of any Country’s Armed Forces.

It seemed to me that you were critising the celebration of ANZAC Day Mark straightened this out and having been a soldier commented that I thought you were insensitive.
The celebration and remenbrance go together They celebrate the voctory that retained our freedom. We should too.
They often didn’t have reading and comprehensive however it didn’t stop them for fighting so that others may obtain them.

Beyond the fact that ANZAC day could and should never be considered a celebration using it to promote a business, even through social media is definitely something to avoid.

There are laws against profiting from ANZAC and even using it for promotions is a recipe for consumer backlash.

While we are remembering the sacrificed the diggers made to protect or freedoms and way of life also remember the backlash Woolworths had in 2015 for their “Fresh in our memories” advertising campaign.

And Steve there is nothing in my post that suggests using the content from the War Memorial for commercial purposes. Once way any business connects with the local community is to recognise and respect local observances and celebrations.

I see nothing wrong with a respectful post on a business page as the business is part of the local community after all.
