Unfortunate news coverage for the newsagency shingle

The news coverage this week of the arrest of a newsagent in Sydney in relation to a crime syndicate is unfortunate for the channel. While I don’t have media monitor data, I suspect we have seen more mainstream media stories published with the newsagency keyword already this week than in all of 2018.

While people are smart enough to not connect the whole channel with the actions of one, I have heard from a couple of newsagents about comments being make across the counter already.

Sorry Mark the feedback is more targeted at the individuals of the business and not at the newsagency channel as a whole, none of my customers implied in any way that is derogatory to our industry. People realize that there is going to be a bag egg in all occupations/industry. Customers rather blame the race of the people involved which is a shame as there are some really wonderful Asian operators in our industry.

Nothing to apologise for Colin. The comments put to that newsagents had received included: do you have any of the baby formula. Harmless for sure.

Some customers thrive on other peoples misfortune, like the troll who I did not see for at least two years in my shop only comes in for gossip smiling like a smiling assassin never buys anything said to me “I am just passing through and I seen the story on the front of your shop about x y z ” my reply to her was did you say you are just passing through? well then just keep passing through. She did not know what to say with my comeback and left with her mouth wide open.
