NLNA seeks ACCC authorisation re Tabcorp

NLNA, the wannabe start-up association has applied to the ACCC for authorisation to represent newsagents with Tabcorp. NLNA has one member, VANA. VANA is already authorised by the ACCC. I don’t see any need for the requested authorisation. Also, with VANA and NLNA being primarily commercially focussed organisations, hiring commission-only sales people to sell their products and services, in my opinion, granting authorisation would negatively impact the integrity of authorisation.

Given their commission only sales person model and given their commercial focus, it feels, smells and walks like a business.

The application is, I think, part of the commercially-focussed strategy of the VANA business – not what you’d expect from a genuinely representative association.

VANA, NLNA, ANF, NANA, ALNA, QNF. Shades of John Cleese in life of Brian and the differing factions of the PPFLP plus variants.

Please Gladys, close our borders now for health reasons so we can keep out these southern extremist insurgents out.

Isn’t ANF, ALNA? Yes it is the Life of Brian, fractured society, desperate for one self survival when strength is needed in numbers.

ALNA has the track record of representing newsagents nationally and has had for decades. Any effort to divert from this is puerile.

I I am not challenging ALNA’S record just that Peter’s post mentioned ANF?

VANA,NLNA,ALNA, ANF, NANA, QNF. So divided and so confusing!

Which one of these guys provides us with a national conference and an opportunity to meet and speak to industry suppliers and players? Which one is able to provide us with guidance as to the opportunities and future direction of our channel? I want one body to work together to represent my interests and those of our channel!

Steve I think you’re after two separate things: representation and strategy.

From a representation perspective, ALNA is the body with decades in place. Primarily focussed on lobbying on behalf of newsagents.

The marketing groups provide the opportunity around strategy. Some but not all offer a national conference, supplier contact and context, business strategy guidance and access to fresh opportunities.

I encourage all marketing groups to respond here. From a newsXpress perspective, it does all the strategy things I mentioned. For example, through covid and today, there are daily Zoom meetings with strategy as #1 topic. They are live and recorded for later viewing by those who wish. There are supplier sessions, too, where suppliers do a deep dive, especially into areas not traditional for newsagents. For those keen, there is individual store data-driven strategic planning and transformation support. None of this can be done by an association.
