Is this what reduced competition means?

Telstra has advised customers that if they wish to pay their bill at Australia Post or at a Telstra shop they will apply a $2.20 “payment administration fee”.  I wonder if they would have done this had the Bill Express bill payment network not collapsed?

I wouldn’t mind $2.20 to process a bill.

Newsagents price their services too cheaply if these rates are anything to go by.   How many days of newspaper delivery services do you get for $2.20?

Maybe Telstra and Australia Post are just too greedy.

Mark, you often quote crikey.com.au so I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned its series of articles this week about Australia Post.

i see that this issue is raised.
    have a look.
If you have a telstra bill and pay at either aust post or telstra shops.
telstra is charging an administration fee of $2.20
the $2.20 is not a fee that aust post will get.
so i fail to see what this has to do with aust post licencees.
telsta is adding this to thier bill not giving it to aust post.
you seem very confused and not informed.
us as licencees will not get $2.20
this would be great but simlpy is not true.
    get your facts correct.
Telstra is making the $2.20 not the licencee!

    Matt,

Telstra have in the past absorbed the cost of paying Aust Post to process the payment (ie. the commission paid to Aust Post for each bill payed). The fee is designed to cover this cost that Telstra is no longer willing to absorb.

I think maybe you are missing the point. Teltra are trying to force the customer to pay direct. Maybe the charges that Aust Post charge Teltra are too much?
