Explaining the end of the Trading Post

picture-047.jpgA smart newsagent in Queensland is explaining the death of the Trading Post to customers with a sign and a copy of a notice from Telstra.

This is a good way to head off some of the questions which are bound to arise when Trading Post customers come in for the next issue and can’t find it.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Trader launched yesterday, as part of the Melbourne Observer newspaper.  They have picked up some people from the Trading Post in Melbourne to help run the new venture.

How can people in Country areas get access to the Melbourne Trader, I also notice that fairfax will be distributing a fortnightly publication called Trading Mart

    Hi Shaun,

I know news travel slow up north, but yes this is the last edition for QLD. We got faxes etc over the past month or so…

Its a sad end… I brought my first car through it 25 years ago…

    Cheers

    Hi Shaun,

We have been taking the opportunity to introduce some of our avid trading post customers to other ttles… Just Cars, Just Bikes, Just Trucks, Tader Boat, Trailer Boat etc…

Many of the trading post customers brought this by habit usually looking for something specific every week… We sell a lot trader and trailer boat and many of these guys did not know about them… once we take the time and walk them through they like… higher price and better margin…

    Cheers

well the last trading post turned up today and finally received the letter and just for the last issue they even decided to double the order ,they might as well chase a few extra dollars for the last issue .As i mentioned earlier this week was the first week i have ever sold out so why double the order now .

It seems that replacements for the Trading Post are appearing in each state, and from what I read these people are being smart and taking on some of the former employees. I read somewhere that the person running a Melbourne replacement says that TP sales in VIC were over 100,000 copies. This may be a decline from former years, but that’s a big number, a big demand, and still a big market.
Luckily for me, and some of my team members who formerly worked at TP, here in QLD someone is jumping an what now appears to be a large whole left in the QLD market for print advertising – and have taken on my whole team. It’s steaming ahead with great success so far.
