The Age price changes for Christmas

The Age has announced an increase in cover price to $2.50 on Friday December 18 and Friday January 1.  Newsagents will need to manage these one off price increases to appropriately chare for retail sales as well as to accurately bill sub agent and home delivery customers.

what is the justification for these price hikes particularly on the 18th?

personally I am embarassed selling the Friday Age for $2.50 and then slugging the same customer another $2.50 on the Saturday for a newspaper that has virtually the same content. There is no justification for this greedy cash grab.

We’ve been told that it’s a bumper edition, which is par for the course for Fairfax at this time of year, is it not?
    What’s the problem?

The problem is the customer can’t see the value in it. Some refuse to pay and wait for the sat edition.

I think that’s the idea, isn’t it? I can’t think of another reason for a bumper.
If they’re not doing a dedicated ‘that day’ edition over the 2 days, then they’re probably not expecting full sales numbers either.

It’s simple really. I have been told that by combining the sales on Friday and Saturday they end up with a bumper sale….without selling one extra paper. Sounds like a scam to me.
