SA newsagents feel let down by ANF

More than 170 newsagents met in Adelaide just before Christmas to discuss the News Limited contracts.  At the meeting the newsagents made their views clear to all of us there including the ANF.  They created a committee to work through their log of claims.

There have been various discussions between the newsagents and the ANF culminating in the newsagents asking the ANF to form a sub-committee to progress negotiations with News.

The ANF has rejected the will of SA newsagents and ruled against forming a sub-committee of newsagents.  It wants SA newsagents to rely on the ANF SA committee, the same committee which many SA newsagents have previously been critical of.

The ANF has missed an opportunity here to demonstrate a preparedness to listen to and act on the will of newsagents.

this is a little off topic, but…..

i had a visit from a NANA rep yesterday who was on a recruitment drive. 3pm friday without an appointment i thought was a little rude.

i didnt have time to listen to the speel about how good they are and why i should give them $44 a month.

after only being in the indusrty for 18 months, half of what i have seen from nana, is about promotion, and how much better they are than ANF.

like alot of people have written on this site, there does need to be unity first.

i am very thankful of this blog, for a supply of industry info, that is relevant, up to the minute, positive and transparent.

thank you mark and all who contribute (even anon)

    Peter,

The only way we can judge associations is by their actions – how they represent newsagents, what they achieve for newsagents through this representation and their transparency. The track record in our channel over recent years is poor.

A unified channel is important. However, I feel that some associations have strayed too far from their association brief to be of value to newsagents.

Look at the issues in SA. The ANF is botching its opportunity to reengage with SA newsagents by ignoring their opinions. It does this at its own peril. Associations are servants – they must remind themselves of this every day.

Newsagents will decide with their cheque books.

No surprise here. The anf has not changed and newsagents would be wasting their time thinking they had. Just look at what the great SA director did telling News that enwsagents would like the migration project. he liked migration and not having to worry about customer accounts. Those of us with shops and rounds need these customers. Talk about ignorant.

The anf does not get my money or my vote.

I said at the meeting that we should not go with the ANF. This whole mess with migration is their doing. The sooner newsagents realise that the ANF puts the ANF first the better as far as I am concerned. It is now March and nothing has been achieved in three months.

The ANF is a waste of time.
