Unusual card requests in the newsagency

Someone asked if we had a card specifically for a nun celebrating fifty years of service. While we have an excellent range of cards we did not have this one. The request started us thinking about obscure card caption requests. I’d be interested in what other newsagents have encountered.

Newsagents sell more cards than any other retail channel so there are bound to be some interesting requests out there.  I recal one a few years ago from a customer looking for a sympathy card for the ex wife of someone they were happy to see had passed away.  Yep, obscure…

We’ve sold congratulations on your divorce cards in the past. Wouldnt it be great to have a blank card designed for a template to overprint with the customers message. Would surely be a $10.00 sale even on a basic card.

Brendan, we use the blank Koala cards to do this. We have set up a template in word that matches the measurements of the card and can print whatever message the customer wants. All they do is pick out a card that has the front cover they want and we print the rest, at a good profit for us.

Luke that is a fantastic idea. Well done. You can’t always rely on someone, card company covering all situations. In the states Hallmark has 3 different counter card or everyday card model lines. They cater to mass market, latin Americans and Black Americans. So with this and our diverse cultural array steps such as you have taken are a lesson for us all.
We have been asked for commitment cards for gay couple’s, not my cup of tea but there is a dollar in it.
