The 20th of the month crunch for newsagents

Yesterday was magazine account payment day for October. Newsagents who missed the cut will be getting calls, emails and letters from today.

One newsagency is facing a bill which is 80% higher this month than last month.  I have data from other newsagencies here magazine revenue for September was less than what they were charged for stock delivered in the month.

I am collecting this data for a submission to various parties on the magazine supply problem. Rather than write a long submission with a log of claims, which has fallen on deaf ears before, I plan to let the data speak for itself.

The evidence of a magazine supply model designed to maintain a certain level of indebtedness of newsagents to distributors is compelling.

Newsagents who want to share data to participate in this should email me.

I sure could have done with the cash refund from GG this month to help pay some other bills, but alas it is in their ‘pool’ of money!

this is how this month is going to work, i have paid what i have equal to my sales and the rest of the stock that i didn’t want or there was no reasonable reason why i recieved the stock can wait .

I am struggling too and have not paid either of my account yet. I have not had time to check them thoroughly and reconcile it. If all my credits have been applied then I will have to toss acoin and Rob Peter to pay Paul. I wonder who will scream the loudest. It is almost 50% more that usual and a hell of a shock. Gotch is almost as bad. We have done very big early returns this month to try and manage the cash flow. This months Gotch returns have to be submitted by 3pm Sydney time Thurs 28th Oct.

Yes Shaun, but I have also noticed that two returns submitted to NDC around the 23rd appear to have been held over, presumebaly for credit to the December account. If this is a general treatment, we still lose!!!

Having seen that G&G were cutting off returns at 3pm Friday 26th, I rang Network twice to see what their cut-off was and was assured on both occasions that providing returns were submitted before the last day of the month, i.e today, then they would be credited on the November statement. I have just noticed on Network Online that those returns submitted on the night of the 26th will not be credited until the December statement.

It beats me why NDC & Gotch bother to have a department called Customer Service – it gets more and more like Service with a Sneer every time you ring.

Obviously a major credential for employment with either is the ability to be a plausible liar!
