Shuffling the newspapers

bestbets-oct2010.JPGWe moved our newspapers around to make the most of the Spring Racing Carnival opportunity.  Winning Post, Sportsman and Best Bets get the prime position for a few days to drive sales.  We then choose the best daily to go next to these based on Spring racing coverage on the front page.  While only a small tactical move, it is relevant to our customers and maximises the opportunity for us.

Customers relate to newsagents when thinking of a Melbourne Cup print form guide. It is a good opportunity to introduce new customers to our newsagency. We offer a buy 5 receive the 6th Sportsman free to our customers. Increased sales by 50%. Word of mouth.

Thats a great promo Russell, our problem was we only receieved 1 sportsman for the day (yes a sum total of 1) and only 2 winning posts even after we asked for extra copies. So like good little retailers we were turning away customers all day.

Same thing here Luke. We were way undersupplied for the Melbourne Cup on all newspaapers. I don’t think we had a single newspaper in the store after 10/11am on both Monday and Tuesday. The joys of being a subagent.

Any paper that is on connect i found that i received all the supply i asked for it was just the local papers that didn;t even bother to try and achieve some extra sales ,but then again they never do as when they run a promo we always still get the same amount of papers so we achieve nothing

We sold out of telegraphs by 10am. The customers then went to SMH and we sold out of them by 10.30. They then went to the regional paper and we sold out by 11.
I could have sold at least another 50 papers.
