Rubber wrist bands are magazines?

pebs.JPGLike many newsagents I am sure, I received these rubber wrist bands yesterday as part of our magazine distribution.  Ridiculous!  I am not going to put this product at the counter when I can have items which deliver double and triple the margin.  I never asked for the product.  It is not magazine stock.  It should never have been distributed to newsagents. When are we going to have the strength, commitment and unity to teach the magazine distributors a lesson over this behaviour?  We are our own worst enemy.

When I sent a letter to the distributors to stop sending magazines (thanks to help from this blog), I looked up ACCC website to back my claim that anything other than magazines is unsolicited product. As I have not checked our contracts in this regard, I cannot say if it non-magazine product is actually unsolicited product, so don’t just take my word for it. But ACCC advises sending notice to the distributor that the product is unwanted and will be made available for collection at their own cost. I have sent this notice, but as I said, I have not checked our contract regarding non-magazine product, so don’t take my word for it.

i bought direct wickiband direct from mdi it costs me $30 delivery fee and the margin is about 30%, so i disagree with you on this.
this is opportunity for trial whether they are good sell or not. if bought direct you can even return it.

We had to put this out for sale because of the sheer demand from customers for WackiBandz. As far as we can tell all our suppliers are out of stock and we have customers asking for them every day. Pebs are our only solution until we’re able to get WackiBandz back in.

ed, the best way would be for all newsagents to delay paying their bills by a month. However, that would be collusion and I am sure they would run to the ACCC.

Mark, The distributor argur that the strength of the chains is their central descion making progress. Why not start up a Tower Magazine Category Management Association. If member of this association acted as one is this colusion?

actually, IF they run to ACCC….and ACCC finds that independent newsagents are in collusion….wouldn’t that have a positive consequence for us in the end?

ACCC would finally listen and investigate why it happened. I mean, its not like Network and Gotch are angels. dirty laundry would be aired. and i believe the distributors have more dirty laundry than us.

we just want to be heard, we just want FAIR treatment…..not special. Because right now, it is too 1 sided.

Shaun, you are right, we can early return whatever we like but DON’T FORGET TO CHECK WHETHER OR NOT YOU GOT THE CREDIT because if it is delayed billing you won’t get the credit until the billing occurs
