Ho hum, more proof of magazine oversupply by Gordon and Gotch

16up.JPGA year ago we cancelled this porn title, 16 UP, with Gordon and Gotch.  It wasn’t selling.  Gotch, contrary to our advice and request, has decided to start sending the title again.  So here I am forced to spend time processing a title which will not sell and which I don’t want.  It is further proof of appalling behaviour by a magazine distributor.  And the ACCC says they are not breaching the Trade Practices Act.  Yes, I have early returned the title.  I should not have to do this. The title should never have made it back into my store without my express permission.

Has anyone noticed yet that we will be getting lots more mags now that Borders and A&R are in trouble. They were getting large quantities of mags and the publishers are not going to change their print run because of it.
The new directive will be (and I think it has already started) “send them to the newsagents because we can’t increase the supermarkets exponentially or they’ll whinge”
I’m checking my supplies like a hawk

    I suspect hawk-like scrutiny won’t be necessary..it’ll stick out like dog’s balls 😀

    June,
How do you know “the new directive will be”
Are you in the loop with publishers or A&R or is this a case of malicious gossip

    Terese, just passing a comment.
I hope it isn’t misconstrued but we need to let the publishers/distributors understand that we are watchful for these occurrences because we have been the chopping block for too long,
not to mention the cashflow problems we are currently experiencing because
    of oversupply of 1’s
and 2’s of mags that are never going to sell and should never go on our shelves but we do so in the hope that things will improve with the distributors but it never does.
No, I wouldn’t call it gossip.
