Swiss Post Office sells lottery tickets

swisspost.JPGWhile the Swiss Post Office does not sell stationery, greeting cards and many other items Government owned Australia Post retail outlets sell, they do sell lottery tickets.  I am not sure if lottery products are sold in just some outlets or network wide. I know how newsagents would feel in the government owned Australia Post outlets started selling lottery tickets.

    just read this press release.. thought it was very interesting it really focuses on what should be their key services and not other products… http://auspost.com.au/about-us/post-office-of-the-future.html I’m sure all their extra lines that impede on a variety of businesses will still be stocked, mind you.

    Summarised from link for Australian Post store for the future.

    The new store will feature six dedicated zones:

    Online shopping zone for online traders including an eBay corner to dispatch parcels, purchase a range of packaging products and shop online with a range of Australia Post eCommerce partners;
    24/7 zone with parcel lockers where customers can pick up their parcel at any time, a vending machine with packaging products and a self-service terminal where they can weigh, and post parcels as well as an ATM;
    Financial and identity services section where customers can sit down and go through transactions with staff;
    Travel services zone offering foreign exchange and a range of travel related services;
    Self-service terminals to allow customers to quickly pay a bill or post a parcel within Australia; and
    New spacious counters, divided into dedicated transaction types.
    The concept store at Brisbane GPO is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

    Squee – What little I know about Lottery / Lotto in NSW and please correct me if I am wrong that NSW have sold there lottery interest however there was a 5 year monotorium expanding into other retail outlets, of course I dont like that idea but I see it as a given when it runs out, considering that outlets such as Aust Post, Supermarkets etc which have been allowed to compete against Newsagencies unfairly (not on equal terms).

    I have never seen a consistant customer service at any Australian owned Post office and it is frustrating.

    That is one of the reasons why Mark bangs on about diversyfing now. Specialist Newsagents need to know whats coming but start their new model for the business a couple of years ago.

    Interesting information to hand the LPO in a costal village 15 minutes away from me in NSW is advertising they will be selling lottery products in 6 weeks. Two months ago we had an LPO open in our shopping plaza (it was moved from another nearby village) while the people in our town love having it there it looks like a $2 shop. Looking in the window of N evening you would not know it was a post office. They are even selling thongs, sunglasses and I noticed windex not very much stationery though does Aust Post allow this

    In the UK many Sub Post Office like mune have the Lottery. It cost us 1p in the £1 to have the Post Office account for it, but we can pay out bigger prizes. In fact up to £50,000, our top pay out though has been £5,000.

    Wendy, an LPO can sell anything they like so long as it doesn’t replace a core Aus Post line from memory (would have to check the exact wording in the agreement). So for example I can’t sell non Aus Post packaging, cartons etc.

    Regarding selling the lottery tickets, I’m aware of two pharmacys in Queensland that do. Tatts/GC do allow that sort of thing if theres no newsagency deemed to be within an acceptable distance apparently.
