Dick Smith stores have been running a 25% off sale. When your prices are high to start with you can afford 25% off. Like most major retailers, Dick Smith is expensive when it comes to ink. Ink is usually cheaper at a newsagency.

I had a customer tell me yesterday that she could have saved a massive $40.00 on her Ink Cartridges is she had of bought from me instead of Harvey Norman. I explained to her that we are amongst the cheapest in town and asked her if she would spread the word……which she readily agreed to (poor thing was still kicking herself when she left).
The challenge for Newsagents stocking Ink is educating people that we are cheap.
I would urge any body reading this blog that is buying Ink from the Majors to check your local Newsagent……you will be pleasantly surprised.

We had a customer sometime back do price check with us against Dick Smith AFTER he’d purchased his ink from Dick Smith……..he returned it for a refund and came back to us about 10 minutes later. We were about $5.00 cheaper on the ink.

I’ve found that sending out a flyer with our prices compared to the majors is more than twice as effective as sending out a flyer with only our prices.
Will often look up officeworks website while processing an ink transaction and let the customer know how much money they’ve just saved. Everyone feels good, and they’re more likely to tell others.

Did some quick research on ink prices shown below Post Office current brochure v DSE Website v a Well Known Newasagent Group Brochure dated 30/11/2011 (from website 18/3) and Office Works. Tried for Office National but could not find it. The DSE website asppears to be the cheapest do they charge a dearer price face to face. Remarkable similaraties between Office Works and the post Office.

On checking the DSE website it is 25% off to the 18/03/2012. Allow for this and Newsagencies are cheaper. Also checked Hardley Normal and Newsagencies were under them in prices. Hardley Normal was close to Office Works on the whole.

I agree with Cameron though do this with a sandwich board out the front with a copy of the AP brochure showing the comparison. Works a treat every time.
Aside from showing the difference it also works at that hard to break belief by customers that in general Newsagents are the last place to go for ink rather than one closer to top of mind. Stay with high prices for ink and you will stay lower in mind.
Even when our price might not be as cheap but very close I find that most times I still make the sale.
We are in a shipping centre and not allowed to run price comparison advertising against other tenants. The best way to counter price perception is through shop flor customer service.
