Gordon and Gotch recently cut our supply of Real People magazine as I blogged here. We had the former supply reinstated. Now, the experts at Gotch have cut us back again – denying us certain sales of a popular title. Getting answers to why Gotch would do this is tougher given the retrenchments in recent weeks.
All I want is certain supply so that I can at the very least maintain the certain sales I am achieving for a title.
Magazine distribution should not the this hard yet it is. And publishers wonder why newsagents act as the do on some fronts.
We received a letter from G&G telling us that they will no longer supply us as we do not sell enough magazines. This is disgraceful. We have sold their products for 22 years. What am I to tell my customers? “Sorry G&G don’t care if you want this weeks New Idea”.
Bruce , don,t answer if you do not want to tell me but what was your monthly account like with them .this could give an idea on where others may stand if they are dropping newsagents
Shaun, I am in a rural General Store. I received what appeared to be general correspondence which would be targeting others stores below a certain financial level of trading. It was suggested I become a sub-agent to a ‘bigger’ store. The nearest next newsagent is located 25 kilometres away. If this happens, how do I get the magazines?
It would be uneconomical to continue getting any G&G distributed magazines if I have to drive 50kms round trip to acquire them and 50kms to return unsolds.
Gordon and Gotch’s way of reducing costs is to punish the ‘smaller’ outlets for their own inefficiencies.
