Mother’s Day in high gear

Today is the day most newsagencies will see Mother’s Day products sales peak.  If yesterday was anything to go by from the data I have seen this morning we’re in for a terrific day today.  Cards and gifts very strong.  Magazines way up for a Friday too – more than 50% in my stores.

It’s thrilling to see the high-end Mother’s Day cards sell very well. It makes me wonder if we could sell more of the large cards like I’ve seen in the UK.

Happy trading today everyone!  Enjoy!!

Has been a great day here ! 🙂

I’ve just closed the doors an hour later than I would normally (I usually shut at 2pm as all the strip shops around me are closed before then) and am sitting here looking at some pretty nice data that has put a big smile on my face. Apart from the expected lotto boost pretty well ever department is up in mid to high double figures or in the case of gifts triple figures. The gifts I’m really excitied about as I saw quite a bit of interest in them today that I think has at least made more people better aware of what we’re now stocking and even managed to sell a couple of higher ticket items that I wasn’t 100% sure myself we sould be able to.

Between today and Marks Newsagency of the Future roadshow earlier in the week I’m pretty confident we’re heading in the right direction !

It’s usually half what we do the day before so we’d me expecting $1,500 in cards.

expecting a bumper day today and what happens? H/SUN arriving late at 6am with 30% supply cut. Shop sold out at 10am, lost of revenue lost.

at least the Cards are sell well.

    Gary,

At least you got papers – looks like the country feeder runs (at least) don’t count for much in News Ltd eyes. Zero Herald Suns so sold out of Ages by 9.00am – if it hadn’t been Mothers Day I wouldn’t have bothered to open – still won’t have to top much in the morning.
