Treasures of the Earth

Given the high rotation TV commercials running at the moment for the Treasures of the Earth partwork series, we decided to give it prime space at the corner of our counter at Forest Hill. As always happens when working in the shop, we sold two as we were setting up the display.  One customer ssaid to her daughter – there it is, I told you they’d have it.  You can’t get a better response to a TV commercial than that.

We will leave this display in place for two weeks and then decide whether to re-locate.

Thanks for posting pictures like this. They are inspirational and show how we can better display feature magazines.

Well my daughter (3yrs) is very keen to get…at least the first edition… So tomorrow we’ll go down to our local to get one. Up until now we go digging in the yard for stones after she sees the first afternoon TV ad…

I bought two packs of the first issue as the price was very reasonable. I searched through two different news agencies to find my great specimens. First pack I bought was for a great looking chunk of rose quartz and the second pack was for a beautifully formed piece of pyrite. The chart looks good on my fridge door. Pity they will now be $9.95. Still good value when I compare $3.50 for a tiny tumbled stone elsewhere.

I have emailed the suppliers with no response, can anyone tell me how many parts are in this collection, and if it is the same as the UK version? I’m up to part 5 and the have already started using smaller round display containers for a tray designed for square display containers. Should I consider this a warning that it’s not going to be a consistant collection?

My 10 yr old looks forward to receiving his minerals/gems but was very disappointed in his Azurite specimen. Wonder if handpicking at Newsagents not a better way to go. Also wonder if anyone knows if there are any issues regarding child labor being used to quarry/mine these stones? Esp. given the stated localities?

My son has been collecting this series in UK for a while hes now on issue 24 I think, to subsribe and get the free gifts was a good idea they dont come with the first issues I think they came after so many so he’d collected about 10 stones before he had all the gifts. I think he told me the little round display trays are birthstones and the square ones whatever other stones there are, hope this helped.
