Early 2014 diary sales

With our diary sales up 10% year on year in the twelve months to June 30 (off a good base), we are pushing hard to at least repeat that growth this financial year.

We have this display capping the entrance to the aisle with newspapers adjacent to our main stationery aisle. This is the same location that worked well for us for financial year diaries. The range will expand over the next few weeks. This Last Diary Co. range always works well to kick off the season.

Did anyone else receive unasked for extra diaries from NDC / Universal ?
I also got a flyer saying they were sending the extra because of my scan sales data / sales history.
I have sold a total of ONE diary so far ( ie most titles have ZERO sales ).
What data did they use. If they truly looked at my scan sales etc, that is a load of rubbish as according to NDC / GG / exchangeit, I am not sending my data !!!!

Yes and they will be topped today. Have not sold any, never do sell many.
I came in early today, well before shop opened to get a start on magazines and I was thinking to myself how good would it be if my shop was twice the size (but same rent of course) and instead of cutting back on magazine pockets I could increase them by 50% or more and how beautiful my magazines would look less squashed and with more space for new titles BUT there is no way I would waste this fantasy space on this rubbish that they have the hide to send me more of!

Hi Guys… I too was miffed that we received extra diaries (especially after doing the “right thing” and adjusting the diary numbers back in August as we were offerred)…Please note I even increased titles that sold well so I feel we did the correct thing. Jenny I have been on the phone to Network, you can early return these titles but will not realise the credit until 20th Feb. Even though todays diaries are charged today. It’s less than $200 for us but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Maybe Network need our cashflow to have a Christmas party or something…. we won’t be able to afford it!

We actually received diaries that we had sold and tried to reorder extras at that time but we couldn’t get any, so for once the replenishment is correct – until next time….

Thanks David, we top and leave in drawer till returns time. They show DB on mine so should not be able to charge this month. I can not believe how much DB mags they are now sending, it’s becoming a joke.

Aust Country Collection. I received 29 initially, down from 38 last year. I sold 14 last year, have sold 3 from 29 this year, and today I receive another 7.
And which company is the only one who benefits from this??

I’ve been talking with the Circulation Director of Universal today and he shared this info:

The top up supply was around 10% of the original supply. We used Scan sales and sales history by region and category for the top up. We have distributed 250K of Diary and Calendar Christmas catalogues to households in strategic areas. Those newsagents have been advised of this promotion. The catalogue pointed customers the product availability on every page.

We will have National Newspaper adverts along the same lines in early December and we are doing merchandising in December and have placed nearly 300 floor display bins 150 of which have been requested on an opt in basis in the last 10 days.

The bulk distribution for products are fully delayed billed and exclusive at retail to newsagent’s.

by exclusive to newsagents I read no way in the world would coles and woollies accept that kind of crap treatment.

if they said they use sales history to determine sending extras of these diaries then that is absolute crap !!! we havent sold 1 and we got heaps again yesterday, they are all topped and ready to be returned monday.

I’m slowly topping and returning them as more profitable lines come in for Christmas as I don’t have the space. Most of the Calanders gone or going back early too to make way for more profitable suppliers of those too.
