Great initiative from a fresh newsagent

LNS_03-12-2013_EGN_07_LIS021213LOTTO01_t460Well done! to Dan Wickham and Rita McLennan the new owners of newsXpress Wollongbar for selling what is claimed to be the longest lotto ticket in the world (a fact currently being checked with the Guinness Book of Records). These first-time newsagents have attacked their business with energy. This very long lotto ticket is just one example of their approach.

Their local newspaper, The Northern Star, picked up the story of the long lotto ticket and featured it  yesterday. other media outlets are chasing the story. The photo is from The Northern Star.

This is a great story for dan and Rita and their business. It’s also a great small town Australia story and a great story for newsagents all over.

Please pass on tips about stories like this – they’re inspiring!

Good on them. I try something similar which quite a few customers enjoy and that is to make up a syndicate of 10 maxi picks into 10 shares or 20 maxi picks into 20 shares. Either way the price is a bit more attractive to my regular customers and I usually sell them quite quickly. I hang the example copy near the Lotto terminal and the sight of the enormous toilet roll of a ticket alone is a beacon. It’s a good idea to try at least once.
I wish I had the sort of us timers these guys can sell to.

Mark, great stuff by these guys. I’ve been doing this for quite some time now and it has been quite effective too – the visual impact of seeing this massive ticket pour out of the terminal and “warning” the customer to start walking backwards, start folding, is quite amazing. I hung a copy across the width of the shop for good effect also. The possibilities are endless when you can also combine OZ & Powerball & Sat Lotto into a multi-game syndicate over 3 draws and give them 3 bites at the cherry. You need to create some theatre and have fun with it. I always finish by saying “with all those numbers, what could possibly go wrong?”

We produce these things weekly – our favourite line is telling the customer that they cannot be folded – the look on their face ……
