Using Twitter for newsagency marketing ideas

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 8.46.51 amI am inspired by this tweet I found yesterday.

A colouring book as an art therapy book!

It is wonderful how comments from others can have us look at our businesses differently. What we see as an item for one purpose could be seen by others as having a completely different purpose.

Maybe we change the art department to art therapy. My mind is racing with how we can promote this.

The more we promote our businesses in non traditional ways the more we will attract people not used to walking through our door.

Mark, you should check out page 4 of the Age. “Work the blues away with crayon and pencil”

I think they may have been referring to the new partwork out in The UK. I saw it advertised when I was there a couple of weeks ago. http://www.arttherapycollection.com/

Adult colouring in books are huge at the moment. We now have the complete Inky range and regularly sell out as it continues to sell out worldwide. I consider it part of the fashion stationery range that I am transitioning my store to. On the floor we also refer to it as ‘therapy’ without the therapist etc. There was a write up on Babyology earlier this week that was shared on our Facebook.

Amazing….just half an hour after reading this post yesterday I had a customer come in with her young daughter to buy a 36 pack of texta`s, I asked if it was for school holiday boredom and Mum said no that they were for herself. She is a youth worker and that colouring in was her form of destressing. My wife then told me that this new form of stress relief was on the radio…..she was going to buy me a book as a gee-up. The customer showed me a pic of the book she had on her phone….very impressive indeed. She has been buying them online but said she would be more than happy to buy them from me if I can get them. It truly is amazing what opportunities we have available to us Newsagents. We just need to engage with customers to find out these things.
    Cheers

We source these through Brumby Sunstate and I dare say other book distributors would have them. Brumby have been excellent in assisting us with stock selection for our store as their focus is on repeat business. To be honest this was a product that I was skeptical of but trust my rep and gave it a go.
PS my store is Papier & Co. in Hope Island, Gold Coast.

Stacy what are adult colouring books. Do they have nude pictures to colour (just joking).
I haven’t heard of them either but I was offered digital colouring books this week and they sounded fantastic. You download the app onto your phone and it actually colours the pages of the colouring in book. Very different and I think very saleable (about $5 to purchase but probably would get $9.95 easily).
