Why play US radio in Australian retail?

I was in a shop a couple of days ago which was playing a US radio station in-store. They thought it was pretty cool. Maybe so in terms of giving off a vibe. However, they were missing an opportunity to more intimately connect with their shoppers.  The between song announcements were not relevant at all.

I played “Country Christmas” from the USA.
Only station ID every 10 Minutes. Quite a lot of positive comments that customers were tired of traditional Carols.

Could it be anything to do with Licencing for public broadcasting, or is that all a non-event now.
It was a concern when we had our shops.

we play US internet radio in our store…..main reason is australian stations recycle too much stuff…….im personally sick of hearing same songs for months at a time multiple times a day…..

less commercials too……. and face it MOST commercials have nothing to do with us. i don’t care about Hardly Normal’s MIDYEAR SALE SALE SALE 1000 Months interest free ………..

Not much good to me for xmas. We always have a complete Aussie theme for xmas. Six white Boomers, painted gum nuts and leaves, Aussie soft toys hanging up and selling all over the place. Rest of the time we only play music if the shops a bit quiet otherwise we are always turning the sound down so we can hear the customers requirements.
