Nice lottery jackpot

There will be some very happy retailers for the next week with the OzLotto $50 million jackpot not going off tonight. A $80 million or more jackpot will generate a tremendous traffic spike. Smart newsagents will make the most of the opportunity.

HUGE DAY – in fact a great week – even may I say, a great last four weeks with school holidays and Easter and now looking forward to Mothers Day. I just added an extra shift to tomorrow lunch so we can cope with having to ALSO do a NSW Lotteries Stress Load on the two new terminals which are sitting alongside our two old terminals…………
it was such a relief that they didn’t want to do this TODAY while peeps are buying tickets, gee, it will be so quiet tomorrow when everyone is coming in to get their tickets checked tomorrow……
aaaaaaarghhhhhhh roll on May 21st, I want my counter back !!!

Pathetic effort by the powers to be, $70 Million. Should have at least been $90 Million after what was generated a few years ago..

$70million is just fine by me thanks, it beats trying to flog $2million.
With the rate cut yesterday, mothers day next week and the $20million draw next Saturday it gives the place a buzz, and people tend to spend more in the rest of the shop.

Anyone see on the tatts site that you no longer need to have a winners circle card to play online ,they are really trying to knock us out of the picture completly

If Powerball jackpots to $20m then next week will be a $110m week to sell. I know its a lousy return but the foot traffic really helps and as said by Luke it sure beats a $2m offering.
I get great results by selling combination packages for the week and will do so again this coming week. Enjoy the foot traffic.

Just a thought. Mark why dont you take on mag distribution and tie it up with parcel post. Surely a good fit. And while you are at it cant you arrange bill payment thru your POS. Then we will have the lot and by by PO’s. Bet youve already thought of it?

shauns, I had a”converstation”, or should I say I was “TOLD” in no uncertain terms by a lady a couple of days ago that it was an “insult” to her that buying her Ozlotto ticket on line cost MORE than paying “you people” and wanted to know why ! In my usual quick thinking manner, I suggested that maybe “they” wanted her to pay for “their” computer !! Anyway, she then said she’d never go online again for a lotto ticket.

@Allan #4 I agree completely. The negotiations on the new commissions are dragging on now to a rediculous point.

    Mark,
I think part of Wally’s point number 8 is a great idea. I would love to do rate, electricity etc through my tower system. Any chance?

Wally, ParcelPoint is all about small parcels. It is not, of itself, a logistics business. It is an aggregation service.

Nicole, bill payment is dead. Margin is too slim to cover the basic costs.

online payment systems have taken the volume out of over the counter bill payments. low volume + low margins + no money

I would like to know whether other lotto
jurisdictions have an inbuilt facility for credit cards or do they have to use their
    own store facility.
SA Lotto is going online soon and we have
been told we can sell with a credit card?
However, the machine has no credit card facilitiy inbuilt and ergo we will have to pay
the costs so I have a sign saying Cash only at my lotto counter and it will stay that way until we get verification from SA lotto that they will be installing the facility and paying for it.
I guess I will be working on Sundays for some time to come as it is impossible to
    pay staff to do nothing.
How can we be expected to pay out of our
small profit margin for credit card facilities
    as well. It is UNSUSTAINABLE.
Today we have a function suppression on
    last night’s lotto.
Effectively this has ceased all sales today as apart from paying out on a Sunday we
are totally geared to clawing back people’s winnings by the week’s offering of lotto.
However, with no payouts available we are
simply having only very small sales.
Once again, double the wages and halving
    our income.
Sometimes I wonder why I am in this business.
A day’s trading will be lost and a huge amount of people aggravated (with us of course) because Lotto has a problem.

June, you should be happy with what you got from lotto , try nsw state transit tickets margin, then you know better which one is fairer. in nsw iam state transit agent’s slave !

We are a newsagent. We have 2 Tatts terminals and 2 POS Terminals. We don’t run a separate Tatts till. We put everything through the POS. There we have TYRO to handle the credit cards. Its quick and easy, so much better than phone connected EFTPOS terminals. real well. Also makes it easier to sell Tatts customers other stuff. We do very few Tatts only transactions. Our Tatts rep told us margins will go up in 2013.

In SA the lotto MUST be kept separately.
No exceptions and we would be breached
if we were audited and didn’t do this.
The lotto machine was able to handle tickets from 2pm yesterday (3 hrs after
opening) so I probably only aggravated
200-300 customers with no availability of
    a saturday function.
