Bauer to close Australian Good Food

Bauer announced yesterday that they will close Australian Good Food magazine. That’s two food magazines gone in a short time. I don’t think it’s reflective of a problem for the segment. rather, these titles were not attractive shoppers because they did not stand out.

The last issue of Australian Good Food will be the December/January issue.

With the world getting fatter and fatter, I think our obsession with food magazines and TV food programs should back off a bit. We need to consume less and eat more basic meals and not the overhyped calorie rich stuff currently promoted.

Am not surprised by this, there are too many titles. Can’t remember when we last sold a copy of Good Food.
Peter, I disagree with your comments on our food obsession. The world is getting fatter because of diets of processed and junk food, and lack of exercise.
TV shows and food magazines promote home cooking – the start to a healthy lifestyle.
They encourage families to cook and share meals together, and for children to be involved with food from a young age.
Magazines such as Feast give us so many recipies and interesting stories about food from different cultures.
Delicious magazine is another great mag, full of ideas for everyday cooking, and the recipies are for tasty and interesting, not fattening, food.
Peter, take home and try some recipies from Delicious Home Cooking book that came in on Wednesday – another fantastic book from the editor of Delicious magazine – and you too may be come obsessed like the rest of us!

I find if I put some garden mags like “Good Organic Gardening”, “Your Guide to Growing Herbs”, and “Your Vegie Patch” amongst the cookbooks, they sell beautifully.
