Why is the Greens vote not reflected in magazine sales?

gmagazine.JPGSales of G and other Green issue magazines do not appear to reflect the strong voter support for Green issues as seen in the recent federal election.  Data I have seen indicates little or no sales growth.  I expected to see something given the extraordinary vote surge between federal polls.  It makes me wonder if the voter surge is people wanting others to do the work for them or  whether it is a pity vote – pity the environment.  While it could be argued that magazine sales are not a fair indication of community engagement with an issue, I would have expected that sales G and other green related magazines would provide a fair indication.  I am left wondering, why sales of green titles are not surging.

I would say because there are so many blogs that cover off the same issue. I go to a coffee shop that is mainly has a green crowd and I have never seen anyone there reading this mag

Not so much a pity vote, I’m afraid. Rather, a vote for anyone BUT the usual suspects.

Maybe they boycott the magazine because of the trees killed to make it.

The Greens high vote at the federal election was not a vote of support for the Greens, but a vote of protest against the Liberal and Labour parties.

    Dean,

Polls on individual policy positions would indicate otherwise. The Greens certainly picked up a significant number of protest votes, but there were a plethora of minor parties and independants to choose from. People that voted Green chose them for a reason – because they agreed with their position on certain issues..

It’s fascinating isn’t it – anything with Organic and Gardening and Chooks and even Small Farms sell like crazy here, but nothing with Green in the title moves anywhere – I’ve tried them with houses, with mens interest, hobbies, with gardening, even sometimes with business mags when the cover article might fit, but NO GO!They don’t move AT ALL.
