Is Fairfax planning on stopping suspension of newspaper subscriptions?

Being able to stop and start the home delivery of newspapers is a long-held feature of the Australian newspaper home delivery model. I was surprised when someone asked me if I had herds, as they had, that Fairfax was planning on stopping the suspension service in a couple of months.

Of course, it could be that Fairfax will allow the suspension for the delivery but not an extension of the subscription period. This would allow the company a financial gain. Customers would be unhappy if it is the case.

So, has anyone heard anything about this?

One of my subscriber customers claims to have been told this by a Fairfax Customer Service Rep when she placed a stop this week. The gist of what she was told is that they will no longer extend subscriptions for stops. In my view, this decision, if true, may well be the trigger for some long term customers to terminate at next renewal date.

I heard this from a subagent newsagent who subscribes to the Age. I think he saw it in the letter they sent him asking him to resubscribe.

They stopped fax notification of stops/starts to us about 2 months ago. The onus is now on us to check connect every day.

Just asked customer service when they phoned us this morning and was told this is happening later in the year when digital subscription is launched. Customer will have their home delivery stopped but because they can still access their paper through digital they will not be credited for this non delivery period.

    Jenny,
I heard the same thing, but believe News will do the same thing. Mark is this the model News us in the UK.

Jenny is correct. As I found to my cost.
I suspended my $25 digital and weekend paper subscription, back in July. Belatedly I checked my CC statement, in September, and found that they had still been taking the money. Subscription is now cancelled.
