Free book with Gardening Australia (sort of)

ga_newspower.JPGWe didn’t get our expected supply of the latest issue of Gardening Australia.  Half of the stock we did receive was a bagged special offer for Newspower newsagents.  Rather than lose sales and return this (since we are a newsXpress store), we put it on the shelf – and it’s selling.  I don’t see the long term value on marketing group specific magazine offers.  While they may drive a sales jump, as with this issue of Gardening Australia, I doubt that they promotions build loyalty around the marketing group brand being promoted.  I’d be more interested in offers which promote our channel over supermarkets and other channels.

    if they didn’t sell so well i would have sent mine back in protest that they prefere to support some newsagents over others .It makes me wonder what other little deals am i missing out on from these magazine companys that groups get .

    I disagree. I cringe every time I see a ad that refers to “your local newsagent”. I want to distance ourselves as far from this generic label as possible.

    “newsXpress have special deals with publishers” Mary wrote.You said Mary you know that (in effect) Sounds a bit like a “put up” remark Mark why comment if she knows that?
    Would you like to inform this forum what they may be? Are they for example extra margin? promotional allowance? promotinal assistance?
    The mere mention of this “extra treatment” suggests that this forum one way or another promotes newsXpress by its leads and answers, something which you strongly deny at great lengths.
    ‘offers come with confidentiality” is an escape answer for discounts and allowance come with growth which is obtained by promoting the fact that you have more to ffer than your opposition. I tyhink you answer is more cute than informative. Please state that whether you are promoting newsXpress or just changing hats when the pressure is applied.

    I am thinking of joining up with a marketing group , i have always been anti marketing group but maybe i am wrong and it is time to change . The biggest problem is ,who to go with as not one person in a group that i have asked anything about has given me a straight forward answer on what i will get out of it .What is every ones opinion on whp would be the top 3 marketing groups ?

    Shaun, The marketing groups are: Newspower, newsXpress and Nextra. There is also Supanews – a more traditional franchise structure suited to new entrants.

    The most important step in determining the right marketing group for you business is to work out what you want from the marketing group.

    Shaun, my family has been in the game about 20yrs and we have tried all the major marketing groups over the time as well as going it alone.

    We are with newsXpress now because we like the feel of the group and the material it offers my business, but to be honest they all offer good value for the fee each charge. You need to be comfortable with the group you are joining because like it or not your business will be a reflection of the other newsagents within the group even the bad ones. Have a good look at what each is willing to offer you to join and what will be of benefit to your situation. From my point of view the groups make life easier for newsagents because you do not need to create all the marketing material ans seasonal needs for your business as well as sourcing new stock or lines, they get the offers and present them to you so you can see what fits.
