We are promoting the latest issue of Better Homes & Gardens on an aisle end between out two busiest magzine aisles. The free home-design DVD is bound to be a hit – it went off last time it was offered with the title. We also have the title in a display unit at the front of the newsagency and in its usual place in our women’s magazine aisle. We will kick this up for weekends, when sales for the title peak.
Better Homes & Gardens goes from strength to strength. It’s appeal is broad and this works well for us.
I live in a country town and each time you have a promotion such as the free home design DVD I can never find a Newsagency that have the DVD attached to the magazine. Is there some other way of purchasing the Magazine with DVD attached?…

Keith your local newsagent is the best port of call. If they can’t help, ask the publisher to help the newsagent get what you want. They may try and sell you a subscription – resist this as buying from your local newsagent helps keep locals in work.

This is where the distribution model really falls down.
Agents whose turnover ‘justifies’ freebies in the eyes of suppliers are fine, but in the instance described above, it not only disadvantages smaller stores, but also the customer.
I wonder how hard it would be for a smaller agent to actually get their hands on the freebies for the customer if they requested one.
