Geographic borders hold back the iPad

Just as the Internet is borderless, so should the iPad be … but it is not.  Here in Australia we do not have access to the books they have in the US yet.  We also cannot buy the same magazines.  If the iPad is to harness its full potential then publishers of content need to vieww the iPad community as a non geographic specific community.

The same thing goes for the current gen consoles and region locks on games/online capabilities. Can’t import and play games from other regions (some of which never get released in australia) unless you modify your console, usually voiding the warranty.

also with dvd region codes. personally i find it useless as most, if not all, dvd players have a system function to enable region-free (region 0 or 9 usually)

Ever since the media companies got blind sided by the internet and the freedom it allows they have been on red alert to protect their artificial boundaries and drive up prices.

Mark, I have been lured to the dark side and I love the Ipad!. I have been a microsoft boy for many years starting on MS Dos and Windows 3.1. I refused to acknowledge Macintosh/Apple existed. It was a very, get thee behind me satan attitude I had. I have never dabbled with Itunes and hated that the software just takes over your system. I now own an Ipad and a whole new world has opened up for me. It is simple to use, the touchscreen is the best I have ever used and it just simply gets on with it with a minimum of fuss. It is not however the unit that is exciting. I have now been exposed to the wonderful world of apps and books, I have not got to newspapers or magazines yet! My logic for buying the unit was that if this is my competitor I need to get to know it, to be able to compete with it.

    Newsagents stock those a-plenty.

Aaron my fault for not expressing myself clearly. I am so busy exploring the iPad and what it has to offer that I have not had time to read the book I have downloaded, nor look at prospective mag purchases. We have all of us limited time to put toward leisure persuits. My time has been gobbled up by the ipads wonderful array of opportunities.
