Strong sales for Junior MasterChef mook

jmc-sales.JPGFive days after moving the Junior MasterChef mook stand near to the entrance to the store we have sold more than 50% of our stock.  My feeling is that we will sell out by the end of this week.  This is an excellent outcome.  It is also a lesson to some of the newsagents who said it would not sell.  I say some because in some country towns I can understand that the traffic is not there for volume.  However, we cannot underestimate the appeal of the MasterChef brand and the Junior MasterChef sub brand.  This was always a product to put in a high traffic location, preferably with other Junior MasterChef branded product.

it has been a good seller so far , i kept all of mine but i think the reason people did send theres back was because of the cash grab at the end of the month . i sold 4 copies in one hit on sat , this lady brought one for each grand child . they seem to work best (for me) on the counter with the counter pos provided

Shoppers around here must be more careful with their money and tend to look around before they buy as a lady came in on saturday and told all that would listen that these mooks are at Big W for less then $15.
She accused me of overcharging and would not listen when I pointed to the rrp.
Sure enough they are in the latest promo for $14.97, that is about what I paid GG for them. We will make are sales where we can but I hate getting a product in only to have it undercut as soon as it hits the shelf.

We have had great success with the masterchef magzines and thought that the cookbook would also be a great seller however out of the 44 copies we recieved I have not sold one. Front of the store in the bright orange stand, on the counter, in the cooking section, in the kids section no where worked. Customers looked at it laughed and said “how else are they going to milk this show”.

Walked through Big W last week and was suprised by their price at $14.97. I was even more suprised to see a receipt from my store on the display, advertising their ‘everyday’ price against the price in my store. They have even been in everyday to make sure that we have not dropped our price!

Well if they had a receipt from your store at least they paid you for a copy.

Ads, If you are in a shopping centre, talk with the landlord. Some centres I have been in have a lease requirement that a tenant is not allowed to directly bag another tenant like this.

Yes, I understand this may be agianst the Trade Practices Act. However, landlords have their ways.

The alternative could be that you do a sign which compares your customer service to their customer service.

Interesting. I thought this would be a perfect product or our main demographic (young families) but we’ve only managed to sell 5 copies while having the stand in two premium positions. We aren’t in direct competition with another seller and price isn’t an issue for our customer base. It appears we are the exception here.

well it must of been a massive hit for them , now they are giving them away with the normal masterchef mag . there must have been a hell of a lot of returns

We were sent 73 and sold NOT A SINGLE ONE ! When they didn’t move before Xmas I reasoned they were a dud, but they have been on continuous display. MKR isn’t doing anything here either – that’s just my demographic.

Sales have slumped for us singe August last year. Up until then this was a red hot mag for us.
What is refreshing is that the free bonus recipe book IS free, a much appreciated move that can only help sales this month.

as long as they are sent back tops only , imagine having to pay for them to be sent back again . – all my mags go back tops only so i am not sure if these are tops or full everywhere else

Gotta ask shaun s, how come you get to return tops only? Gotch is pretty good (except witht he partworks which are always a full) but Network still insist all early returns are fulls and a large number of the regular returns. Cost of returns is a problem at times, even though I keep a close eye on my allocations. What are you doing differently?

QNF struck a deal for parts of regional QLD to be tops only due to freight/distance issues

Typical, our local assoc. seems to do very little. We’ tried to negotiate similar terms on an individual basis when we bought our newsagency 18 months ago. But we got nowhere.
