Royal Wedding interest in steep decline for us

The difference in interest among shoppers in the Royal Wedding between last weekend and this is extraordinary.  We could see it in browsing behaviour and hear it in comments from shoppers.

We plan to pull back of the display space we have allocated to Royal Wedding titles – to two displays.  No point in promoting something shoppers make it clear they have moved on from.

I know from talking with other newsagents that they are not experiencing the same decline in interest.  It is something for newsagents to watch carefully.

You are right Mark, our sales have dropped significantly in the last week yet we have just received another supply of AWW and the New Idea Special. They do not have premium space anymore becuase as you said, people have moved on. They want to read about Pippa’s butt!

I got double my usual Hello supply this morning and have sold them all again (wedding on the front again).
I have been astounded at how long it has managed to stay in the mind of the consumer and am still reaping the benefit of it.
There is an AWW wedding special due on Friday and I am due to get stacks of them but I think that is pushing the envelope because it is now 3 weeks since the wedding, but only time will tell, if AWW have missed the wedding boat. Hello was the most sought after mag in my shop during the pre and post wedding period and I missed dozens of sales because of no stock even though I had requested it many weeks before the wedding. My request was spot on today and I have sold through in one day.

I just had a look at our monthly comparison to last May and our mags womens magazine sales are down 35% for the month. We might be in a massively republican area but even our regular customers are not buying their regular mags with the wedding on the cover, yet alone the special editions. We have had these mags in prime locations and displayed well but no sales outside the first 2 days after the wedding. We will see next month if sales bounce back after we go back to normal.

After we sold out of the original AWW that was undersupplied (we got less then 50% of our allocation) we have only 3 copies of the next lot of deliveries so will have to return bulks, god I hate split deliveries as you need to get sales as soon as the mag becomes available not weeks later.
Anyway like before we will wait until next month to see if sales bounce, it may just be our customers but they hated the wedding.
