The tub of glitter packaged with the launch issue of the Cake decorating partwork now on sale in newsagencies (and 30 Woolworths outlets!) contains glitter that is NOt edible. Given that this is a care decorating product I would have thought that the glitter was edible. That is what some customers thought as newsagents have already told me.
To warn customers, the team at one of my stores created a warning notice. It’s the black on yellow notice in the photo. Click here to download a copy of the glitter warning notice.
Network aServices and DeAgostini should have strongly warned newsagents about this. The risk of litigation in the event of harm caused y the glitter is considerable given the very hard to read warning on the lid of the glitter.
Thanks Mark. In the promo. info sent out by Network it says it IS edible. We have printed off the labels and have told our customers and their reaction was why is it in the pack if it’s not edible.

Interesting Ian. I did not read this. Certainly the lid on the glitter container has a warning- hard to read as it is.

Ian I’m away from the shop. Does it say that the notice on the cap of the glitter is wrong?

Mark, No notice. The full wording is: Issue 1: 2 x Pink Resin-coated Butterfly cutters(6.5cm and 2.5cm wide) Pink Edible Glitter plus cake decorating stand (flat packed).

Thanks. I stand by warning customers about this then. We can only go off what the glitter cap says.

On the inside flap of the Part #1 folder it says “Non toxic glitters can be used on decorations that are easily removed. If consumed, then the product will cause no harm and simply pass through the digestive system.”
The bottle itself has “Non-toxic docorating glitter. Not to be consumed.”

Should make the end result colourful then……. 🙂

Seems a bit odd to strange to not give customers the full advice if you have the knowledge that it is non-toxic, edible & can be used as a decoration.

Rebecca, all we had to go off was what was on the cap of the product itself. When you have two customers returning a product expressing concern you can only go off what is on the product.
The information relating to the glitter has been poorly executed.
