Pacific Magazines promotes newsagents

Pacific Magazines sent out this text on the weekend as part of their WIN A CAR promotion. \Pacific promoting the newsagency channel exclusively is something newsagents should welcome.

Our best response is active in-store engagement with this promotion.

Not so much 1000 newsagents engaged with nexus as pacific magazines choosing to engage with the 1000 top ranked newsagent for sales of their product. Newsagent engagements got nothing to do with it its purely how big your turnover is. You could be a small rural newsagent who see’s magazines as a major part of you business and you wont get a look in, the owner of a number of large suburban newsagencies may consider magazines as of little consequence but still turnover enough to be part of nexus.

Not true Steve. Size is not always a factor. For example, all newsXpress members are in regardless of size. Pacific is looking for engagement to drive incremental business.

Mark I don’t no if that disproves my observation that it’s scale not engagement that determines if your invited to join nexus. Does being a member of a group like newsxpress mean your engage in the magazine space or just that your part of something larger than yourself? I notice you yourself have opened a new store under the newsxpress banner that is so disengaged it actually has no magazines.

Steve, as I have written here several times, the new store is a learning space. Originally it was not going to be a newsXpress store. Then, it was not going to have any print media. Now it has papers. It would be wrong, at this early stage, to say what the store will or will not do. Our customers are guiding us.

On the issue of size, I think your comment about being part of something bigger is out of context here. Pacific partnered with newsXpress on the development of nexus years ago. This was because of engagement in the category, because newsXpress through its processes could add value at the store level to what nexus does. This is why for newsXpress there is no size requirement.

Fair enough Mark. All I know is I was invited to join nexus about 2 years ago purely because I had crossed their magic line on sales, about 6 months ago I was disinvited because I had fallen below that line. Nexus made no mention of engagement just that I was selling enough of their product and then I wasn’t.

Definition Nexus …”an important connection between the parts of a system or a group of things”. If the system is the channel, then Nexus is only interested in parts of it.

Don’t be offended Nexus …not interested in you either
