Newsagents wonder about the XchangeIT / The Lott project

XchangeIT sent out an announcement yesterday that looked like it was from the clip art days of the early 1990s, about a new project they are pushing for with The Lott. With the ink barely dry on basic specs, they are promoting something that is not yet available. Based on the 50+ newsagents I heard from yesterday about it, something newsagents don’t want.

As is usually there case with these supplier related initiatives, the owners of the software companies doing the work are expected to be the major investors in these projects dreamed up by others.

Why is this XchangeIT / The Lott project a thing? I suspect it has more to do with XchangeIT trying to ensure relevance than anything else. Knowing a bit about what is actually planned, I am doubtful sufficient numbers of newsagents will use it if delivered as currently specced. However, the engagement will be up to newsagents to determine.

Stupid. Why would I let Tatts anywhere near my computer? I wouldn’t.

do not know why XIT are invovled as they do not need that data.
that said – I think that facility would be great as it would onlt be a one way data transmission from lpotteries terminal to our pos.
it would save having to scan all lotteries into our pos, thus saving double handling and errors

Greg, there are parts of the situation that s difficult to grasp and those at the coal face know them.
However there are many retailers that don’t ring up Lotto and their products on the P.O.S. just take the Lotto sales net from the lotto terminal and ring up the scanned or unscanned product and service lines on their P.O.S.
it amy well be that one solutution through XCHANGEIT does not fit all newsagency operations.

What is proposed is nowhere near best practice. It is cumbersome and of little practical; benefit to newsagents. A review of other integrations around the world would have revealed far better approaches, approaches proposed to Tatts / Tabcorp previously, plenty of times. But, hey, they are the experts for their side of the transaction and are in control of what is permitted on the newsagent side of the transaction.

TabCorp are looking to appoint a new CEO one that is an IT expert according to The Fin Rev one day last week and The Australian. They deny that they could “split” the gaming as was before however it’s the Lott
is a different horse race than Pub betting which has been taking a bashing with COVID.
It will be interesting to see if they continue with XCHANGEIT Personally I don’;t see the benefit of direct link unless the sale content on the Lottery counter is liberated somewhat.

Yes it was interesting to see Tabcorp’s share price rise by nearly 5 per cent on the resignation of both their chairman & CEO. Their strategy with lotteries has been clearly to drive online growth. I am hoping the new CEO will see the value of their lotteries franchise network which has clearly helped carry the wagering division of the company.

In this new world when governments are looking to minimise the fall of their revenue and encourage employment I encourage them to balance the playing field and increase taxes for all online gambling including lotteries.

Mark from a software providers perspective what data of ours will Tabcorp have access to in this arrangement with XchangeIT? . Is their any data Tabcorp could potentially provide us?

Steve – none. It’s one way. I think there is a ton of useful data Tabcorp could provide retailers, which could help retailers increase sales. However, that would require a more live connection, which Tabcorp, and Tatts before them, had no interest in.
