How much lottery business is TheLott winning in Western Australia?

When I was in Perth on Tuesday morning this week I opened TheLott app on my iPhone and purchased a ticket. Lotterywest and Lotterywest retailers should be concerned about this.

Sure Paul. To show some newsagents in WA that it could be done. I then logged in can cancelled it.

The reality is since COVID. many people in all fields of consuming realised- on line- is an option.
Shop Front Retail has not yet recovered from this.
It’s work in progress or it’s over Red Rover.
It’s up to the retailer to do their best and Govt’s to get real in getting workers out there back into a society working environment more than a non productive home relaxed one.

Mark, I downloaded The Lott app and tried to register – in the name of research. When I entered my WA residential address, a window appeared saying “Lotterywest is the home of lotteries in WA. As you live in Western Australia you need to register with Lotterywest to play your favourite games online.” There is then a choice to “Cancel” or “Join Lotterywest”. Join Lotterywest option takes you to the Lotterywest app. So while Eastern State residents can come to WA and purchase online via their The Lott app, I would imagine WA residents would be able to make online purchaes on their Lotterywest app when in the the East.

Previously when in Perth, Dean, I have been blocked. I tried it in London two weeks ago and was blocked.

Graeme I disagree. Retail numbers are good. ABS data for the sector in which our channel sits, January 2024 was up 1.7% on 2023.

Looking at 2023 vs 2022, the numbers for a reasonable sample size I have from businesses in our channel show good results there too.

People working from home tend to shop locally. ABS data speak to that too.

The nature of work has changed not only because of Covid but because of advances, such as AI. When and where people work has changed.

The bigger impact on in-store shopping continues to be online. Retailers not online are not maximising their opportunity.

Retailers in our channel finding things challenging tend to be those focussed on traditional categories: lotteries, papers, magazines, basic stationery and convenience lines.

At my software company, all who started working from home during Covid continue to. On average, this gives each person 8 hours more personal time a week. That’s a win. Productivity is excellent and happiness in the job is too.

Those complaining in the media the most about working from home are those with commercial interests in property.

None work from home of course Graeme. Nor do pharmacists, clothing shop owners etc. But, these local retailers are serving plenty of folk who do work from home.

Your results for country NSW don’t match what I’ve seen from across the country, including NSW.

Thanks for your reply. The newsagents etc obviously don’t work from home therefore it is most imortant to cater on line for the consumer You covered this well However, we talked with many newsagents in their stores and they were “slightly down” since December. Not one of them was up the best was a “break even” comment. I was also surprised to see some closures and/or “sales” of newsagencies to ‘Foodworks’ style supermarkets in some country Towns Newsagencies that were quite substantial in size uop to and one of them over 200sq. metres
This is a factual comment Mark we have driven 1,000’s. of ks within the the State on the South Western Region and back up inland. We ae on the last leg of the Journey to and will be back at base Wednesday.
The general feel is that it’s not yet “Gloom amd Doom” however the uncertanty is clouding the issue. Soome of the stores are newsXpress others not -same story the newsXpress ones were very well presented.
Country folk after pandendemic had the majority of workers back to pre pandemic employment work place. wherease many workers in Sydney anyway are being forced to go back to Office to work, which is a good thing.
