News Corp. David Attenborough DVD promotion to soften impact of newspaper price rise

attendbThe same day the the cover price of the Herald Sun and other News Corp. newspapers increases the company is launching the David Attenborough DVD series in a marketing campaign that is expected to be successful in driving sales as people collect the coupon that is necessary for getting a DVD.

Shopper interest in the DVDs is strong and we are still a few days away from launch. Key to achieving maximum success will be access to enough newspaper and DVD product. Some parts of News Corp have a good track record with such promotions while others have a poor track record. In this regard, I’m happy I’m in Victoria.

    Mark,
a great promo yes but do you know that News is quietly offering existing subscribers the set for $25 inc postage.

A great promotion that just lost its edge

John I agree. Shine taken away but still a good promotion. Hopefully OTC sales surge.

John, I have no problem with that as their subscribers are not my daily customers, any way.

I embrace the promotion as a way to get potential new customers through the door and will be making sure that when they collect their DVDs they get to see some of our other offerings.

And, on the last 2 promos, especially Mr Men, we saw a lot of subscribers collecting from us as it was easier than placing an order. Go figure.

News are to be congratulated for providing us with an opportunity to establish new customers. We have already had a visit from The Advertiser rep with promo materials to display in store.

Price rise? I know I haven’t been at work since Monday but I hadn’t heard of a price rise for the Herald Sun. Maybe all will become clear when I front up tomorrow…

Also, re the $25 offer: Isn’t that with a form lodged with the newsagent that is sent back to the HWT to enable full credits for each set? Otherwise, yeah, you could sell all your sets to subscribers and end up paying for the privilege.
