Managing Herald Sun footy cards

footy_cards.JPGWe have used the form in the photo to manage Herald Sun footy cards for a few years now. It provides our team and our customers with certainty for the full season of the cards. The structure and rules around the spreadsheet make the cards stress free for us. It also ensurfe we do not over commit.

Promotions like the footy cards are all about driving newspaper sales. By tight management of the process we’re able to control labour cost and ensure good customer outcomes.

I’m interested to know how strict other agents are in regard to tokens, we have a few customers who want a pack for each of their kids but only have use for one paper, I feel a bit cheeky making them buy 2 papers.

    I’m interested in this also.
If a customer buys the Herald-Sun, they can also buy a set of cards. We do not have time or inclination to cut out their coupon, so therefore they can go into another newsagent with their coupon and buy a second pack of cards. I just had a home delivery customer who wants to collect three sets for three grandchildren. She claimed one set because she’s a home del customer ie, I know she bought a H/S, then a second set with the coupon, and wanted me to sell her the thrid set of cards without buying a paper. I tend to attempt to explain that this is a promotion to sell more papers, and that the H/Sun will see that the promo is NOT selling more papers, and will be reluctant to repeat the excercise next year if sales don’t increase, They see the point, but don’t want to pay any money for the paper, happy to pay for the cards.
    What are other agents doing?

At Beechworth and Seymour stores we allow the customer to purchase the paper and cards together without cutting the coupon out. It is simply a ‘time’ issue.
If they decide to cut the coupon out later and redeem it at my store or another, so be it. Less stock to return, I would imagine it would be a very small minority that takes the time to do this.
Similarly, when the coupons are handed over, they go straight in the bin.
For me, it’s all about ease of business.
