Beware of telemarketers

Newsagents are getting swamped by telemarketers promoting eftpos and mobile phone recharge offers.  I am hearing reports that some telemarketers are being overzealous in representing their offers, even claiming they are part of one group when they are not.  For the record, no telemarketers are calling at present to pitch eziPass or the St.George offer I brokered.  Newsagents signing up with St.George or Suncorp as a result of telemarketing are entering sa relationship which provides commission to the ANF.

we had a st george rep come to the shop on Saturday morning to sign us up. I mentioned that I was aware of the offer through Tower. He corrected me and said ANF. I told him that we would look at the information and contact him. On Monday morning we received a call from a st george rep, and we told them that we were not interested due to ANF receiving a commision. The rep told me that if we signed up we would be under a different code and that ANF would not receive one cent. So if you wish to have the ST george deal just mention as we did that you want the deal brokered by tower.

    Deb,
You also need to follow through with St George to ensure you are put on the right offer.
Newsagents need to ensure that you tell the representative CLEARLY which offer you wish to be a part of. You are dealing with banks who lost any form of compassion for its customers years ago!
At Seymour we have already had the experience of St George pushing the ANF offer; when i corrected him and advised that we are part of Tower he said they were the same. THEY ARE NOT the same.
Tread carefully and do your homework; as has been stated you need to find out who is getting the kickbacks.

You should not receive too many calls today as apparently the Optus phone network is down. This has affected our store directly because the ANZ EFTPOS is subsquently down…where is their redundancy?…..after the billexpress fiasco ANZ looks even less robust…and obviously they have all their telephones with the Optus because no one anaywhere in the ANZ can apparently be called to give advice on the problem….somehow I don’t think the ANZ will be winning bankng awards this year…

Scott you are lucky…we have missed about $1,000 in sales due to the Eftpos network being down here in QLD….customers were also coming in noting their Optus mobile phones were also down…watch the news tonight as I am sure it will be reported…fortunately the service has just now been restored , but I am sure many people and business were affected….and thankfully most of our customers were understanding.

Even the Coolly airport was down.

I heard an optic cable was cut south of the Gold Coast affecting everyone up to Cairns.

    Mine is still down.

I’m so bloody sick of telemarketers, we get nearly a call a day, if it’s not someone wanting to confirm our name, address and phone number then it’s someone telling us we have now changed phone providers.

HOW DO I MAKE THEM STOP?

Andrew, I’d suggest getting the facility to see the number of the person calling. Almost all the telemarketers that target me use an “Overseas” connection, so as soon as “Overseas Private” shows on the phone display, I cancel the call, minimizing the amount of wasted time. Obviously this won’t work if you expect “real” calls from overseas!

You can also listen for a delay once you’ve picked up. Nine out of ten times, it will be followed by a ‘hellooooo?’. Then hang up on them!

Unless you can get them to give you a website from which you can get contact information via which to ask them to stop calling, not a lot.

One thing we did find when we were new here, was that our contact details as a new business were onsold by the Qld office of fair trading. We only found out about this when one marketer sent us a letter, disclosing this.
Funnily enough, when I emailed the relevant body, letting them know how disappointed we were that the one entity in charge of protecting us from that, was actually perpetrating it, we never heard again, and also could not find the program on their website any more. It was an ancronym, but the combo escapes me.

    No feedback, no acknowledgement.
    Hmmm I see a pattern forming here…
