D day on Bill Express payments

The next 24 hours will reveal how successful newsagents have been at stopping payments for their Bill Express equipment being taken from their accounts. While newsagents have been advised for three months to cancel direct debit arrangements, some had not because the Australian Newsagents’ Federation, until a couple of weeks ago, published contrary advice (without having legal advice to back this).

I expect that some banks will have not followed account holder instructions and allow payments to proceed. Any newsagent in this position needs to know that many have successfully clawed back the money taken by their bank for Bill Express equipment lease payments.

I just had in my store the first owner, I am the third of my shop. He said he had BE in our store five years ago, which means the 48 months of paying rental is over for this store.

Reading my contract BE have restarted it with me, plainly wrong. Another thing to fight Mobius with if they keep trying to take it out???

Has anyone had any corresspondance from Mobius after cancelling the debits over the last two months?

    Hi
I’ve had one letter from mobius, stating “what I owe them”.
I haven’t yet had any threats, apart from the threats from bxp before they went belly up.
    Obviously I ignored it.
I have paid nothing since they first cut the rebates.

Surprise surprise, no ANF stand at the GNS fair?
Would have been plenty of high rafters to throw a rope over, up in the roof of ‘The Dome’
    Surely they’re gone?

same here, only 1 letter when we first stopped the direct debit in Jun08.

    Nothing since.

we have not bothered to reply it and should they want an answer our case legal would be on to them.

I’ve had the letter but don’t care about 7-11 unless it’s really worth it.

Has anyone been debited by Mobius this last few days?

Yes and no. $544.50 appeared on my Westpac statement yesterday, but “disappeared” when I checked again earlier on. Had the money credited for April, May & June without a hitch. Thanks to Mark & fellow newsagents for your timely advice. Indeed, “unity is strength”!

We received the 7-Eleven letter regarding the Bill Express platform only a few days before the Financial Review reported the apparent withdrawal of interest.

Hi I have a small newsagent/conv store in Qld. I stopped payment on BE when it went bust! I have had one letter from Mobius – and ignored it. Today the 15/9/08 I have received another letter stating I am overdue with payments on equipment rental from a company Pepper Homeloans North Sydney, nsw 1800501090. stating they are acting on behalf of BNY Trust company of Aust Ltd, the assigneee of Technology Business International Pty Ltd. I rang and spoke to a young lady, who only wanted me to answer one question ‘A yes or no to my capacity to pay the outstanding amount’. I stated NO – but rewquested why only this question was being asked? Advised her of the BE situ and requested to speak to a supervisor or Manager. Advised Manager ‘Niel’ (wouldn’t give second name) was in a meeting! – Left message that I want contact from this person ASAP to discuss the issue stated in the letter from Pepper Homeloans. When is this going to end!!!!!! I am fed up with these requests for payment for a promises program that is now defunct and all those originally associated with this BE have all gone into liquidation!!!!! What is going on and what is the Newagenst Federation doing to resolve these issues for once and all?
