NDD closure impact (part 2)

Distribution newsagents receiving product through Fairfax Media Publication Solutions are being stung in terms of cash flow.  Previously, magazines which were supplied, say, in the second week of September, would have until the twentieth of October to pay for this stock.  Now, these magazines have to be paid for in the third week of September.

The cash flow impact of this change is significant and will make newsagents even more reluctant to carry titles distributed through Fairfax Media Publication Solutions.

You never know what you miss until it is gone.

We are distribution only, and we refuse to stock any Fairfax magazine unless specifically requested by a subagent or customer. They are all early returned, and their standing order set to 0.

I fixed this problem by leaving six weeks owing at all times on my Fairfax A/C, they can wait for thier money, I have always paid all my accounts weekly when due, and still do for all the other Newspaper A/C’s, but not Fairfax.

Another problem with the NDD closure has been the lack of sales data being sent through to the new supplier, I have lost sales due to nil supply or insufficient supply from Network for NDD titles. I used to receive 30 copies of Cruzin per month this included several putaways, and from Network have been unable to get any stock at all.

MC your suggestion about holding back payment for six weeks is fine if you owe them money. We are always in credit with Fairfax and receive a cheque each week for over $1,000

The cap does not fit our situation.

I have always paid my NDD by due date. I contacted NDD this week to find out when they will credit MY account for the $1500.00 I am currently owed at the end of August.
I was advised that all accounts will be finalised on the 20th November 2010 for all balances owing.
Why was I stupid enough to pay all my accounts on time.
Has anyone else had this issue.

    Greg,

If you have returned all stock and have nothing outstanding I wouldask for payment. if it not forthcoming, I’d suggest you consider other avenues.

MC, I left 3 weeks owing on my Fairfax account and received a Letter of Demand. The letter also stated that supply would be stopped and recovery action commenced if the amount wasn’t settled immediately.
Greg, I emailed NDD at the end of August as we no longer had any NDD stock on the shelf. We received a cheque for the full amount they owed us last week

    Shayne,
I am not sure of your situation but I think demand for payment from Fairfax depends particularly on how many home deliveries you have. In my situation I home deliver more than 100 SMH & Fin Mon-Fri and over 170 on Sat and Sun, If you have a lot of home deliveries then generaly they are fairly lenient. I have never been contacted in 21 years, as long as you still make a regular payment it should be ok.

We are owed $1200 by NDD which is not an amount we can afford to loose nor can any small business. I am shocked to read that only ANF members were informed on how to get their money back. They can’t do this to us. Can someone who succeeded in getting reimbursed by NDD let us know how you did it.

I think NDD faxed out a notice by memory saying to fax in the last invoice number with the amount owed. They then sent a cheque with the credits.

ndd emailed us with the details.

We received a cheque by return mail after confirming the balance.

I thought they would have emailed all of their customers.

We are yet to receive a NDD refund cheque, despite querying this at the end of Sept and again during Oct, and were informed that cheques were being sent out later in Oct, or early Nov. The problem now is that they are no longer around, and we cant contact them. Anyone have any current NDD contact details??
