I urge newsagents to watch Australian Story on ABC1 tonight. It takes us behind the recent wave of redundancies at Fairfax and, in particular, The Sydney Morning Herald. the preview I have seen is compelling.
Wow, what a program. I feel for the journalists personally and for the future of a venerable newspaper masthead and for the impact in our journey in democracy.
So sad for all the journalists and our paper yes, but more so for the brother Malcolm Brown and his sisters lost.
What a great family to share what must have been so hard – living with a brother whose problems no one understood or knew how to help.
Today Callum Park is gone but our government still has a long way to go to improve in our mental health system.
Sad story.
It did cross my mind that I wonder if journalists ever consider what the reader wants to read about these days, or if they only want to write about their special interest subject from 20 years ago. The audience is changing, but newspapers aren’t.
And how we access news and interact with news is changing.
