Poor marketing execution by News Corp.

20151230_072234Newsagents in Queensland received The House of Wellness launch issue with their papers today. News Corp sent out the notice to explain the free magazine hours after the papers arrived. This is appalling communication.

‘What is even worse is that the launch issue is from last year. This freebie to be given away with The Sunday Mail on January 17 is of questionable value as it is old content.

News Corp. is paying newsagents 20 cents a copy to hand the freebie out, store it in the meantime, put up posters and other collateral and manage this promotion. Given what is expected of newsagents, News Corp. should be paying at least a living wage – five times the 20 cents paltry fee.

This looks like lazy marketing to me. Someone found spare stock in the warehouse and thought lest send this to newsagents for a promotion. They have the stock because they could not move the stock the first time around. Newsagents provide them a low cost distribution channel, unfortunately.

House of Wellness published for Chemist Warehouse by News Corp Australia”.
    This is an advertising supplement.
    Why not say so!

I did not realise that it was ours. I thought it was left at our door in error. It is an advertising vehicle for Chemist Warehouse not a real magazine.
So I phoned up the Chemist Warehouse headquarters to ask them what it was about. They haven’t got back to me yet.
It is a good thing I looked at this blog today. Now I know what is going on.Yes an abuse of newsagents by our supply “partners” News Ltd.

Looks to be a rehash of the Myer promotion late November.

Even the 12.5% commission for Newscorp mags is way out of touch with reality and a joke. They should at least be matching gotch and networks 25%.

Promotion has now arrived down to Tasmania soon. The magazine is obviously too big to fit through their machines and put in the paper – 20c dist fee here too.

Just had this Shite dumped on my counter by a courier. Typical Newscorp, no email or cover letter explaining what to do with it. I suppose I’ll have to wait and read what they want me to do with it in the paper as usual. Just the normal piss-poor communication from Newscorp I’ve come to expect.

Here we go again – Coming to a newsagent near you 19/20 March. Surely News Ltd could be honest and say it is an advertising feature – not a Magazine. How can it be called a magazine? And we will get 20c a copy!!

Not one person asked for one , advertising failure right there .

Same here Shaun I put the pile of shite on the counter early in the morning. I offered 4 people a free “magazine”. One person allowed me to give it to them. The other three knocked me back. I then dumped the lot in the bin. It wasn’t a problem. Not one person came in and asked for the offer.
