A new gay wedding magazine

CoverGroom and Guy magazine is a welcome addition to the wedding titles and is set to shake up what is to me a boring magazine category. Groom and Guy is Australia’s and maybe the world’s first gay wedding magazine. It is out today and distributed by Gordon and Gotch.

If you are stocking Groom and Guy I encourage you to leverage the strong media interest. Place it outside the wedding section. Even contemplate a window display or aisle end as this magazine could attract new shoppers. Talk about it on social media. Embrace the opportunity and, maybe along the way, help bring Australia out of the dark ages on the issue of gay marriage.

Shaun it would be a mistake to think of this as another wedding title. It is a sub-niche, an opportunity.

Right or wrong gay marriage is unrecognised and is illegal.

Should we stock polygamous marriage magazines?

That is ridiculous Glenn. It will be legalised and one more ignorant stance taken in the name of ‘religion’ will be removed.

If it turns up I will gladly displace one the boring photoshoot wedding mags.

I hope GG have put some extra effort into choosing the 1200 outlets to receive copies. I have been recently been receiving a number of publications totally unsuited to my customer base which are returned early.

Fingers crossed this new GG is not sunk at launch by failings at old GG.

I think it’s fantastic that this magazine is available. We are in the 21st century and still have a long way to go in the fight for equality. I’m a heterosexual male but want to be part of a truly free and equal society.

I’m glad this is available. It’s 2016 and I don’t give a toss who it offends. If it’s what customers want then I will stock it happily.

Thank you! We are so excited to see Groom + Guy launch today and although there has been exponential interest in pre orders, there are so many people that are simply waiting for it to be on shelves to pick one up personally.

Mark, I think Newsxpress is going to have to reprint some magazine header cards. The designation “Bridal” seems to be both Sexist and Heteronormative.

I received 12 copies of this niche title that expects to stay on my shelf for 12 weeks???

Wow, have to say I’m surprised by some of the comments on here. I really thought we where in the 21st century!

I welcome it. Don’t expect too much from it but welcome it. It is 2016 not 1949.

Stacey, There is one solitary comment against the content of this magazine which is Glenn D @#3 and he’s wrong, SSM isn’t illegal, it is however as he say’s unrecognised. You can live together as a couple and have as many wedding’s as you want and no ones every going to charge you with an offence, however your not going to get issued a marriage certificate either.
I only have one problem with Groom and Guy and that’s the orientation of the spine and the title. If you display it with the title on top and normal magazine orientation the soft cover and no side spine means its going to slump in the pocket and eventually fall over, if you display it with the spine on the side to hold it up it’s wider and shorter than other magazines with the title sideways and obscured.
Sometimes publishers are to smart for their own good.

Like every magazine we will give it a go and as it is essentially targeting an audience not currently catered for we will give it prominent space during the first few issues.

But if it does not sell, then like every other magazine it won’t get shelf space if it is not making me money.

As it should be Amanda. We do need to try new titles but, now more than ever, we need new titles to work.
