Promoting Family Circle Winter issue

fhn_family_circle_winter09.JPGWe are promoting the Winter edition of Family Circle at the counter this week.  It earns this place based on the sales performance of the last two issues in this same location.  We also have Family Circle with our weeklies and in our food section.

The $5.95 price point makes it an easy impulse purchase decision.

We have high expectations for this counter position.  Delicious in this same location was not as successful as we had hoped – hence the decision to replace it this morning with Family Circle.

I had Delicious in the same spot, just a bit lower, level with a six year old’s eyesight.

Haven’t moved on so far – could be the actual chocolate, Orange and Dark chocolate (YUK, for the majority).

I’m thinking about doing something about the six year old eyesight height. If I made a “Mother/Young Son 5% off pack” consisting of say: Delicious/Ben10 cards.

The kid would hopefully draw attention to the card pack, then the Mother might see the magazine and then might decide to purchase. I may lose 5% of the profit but make the sale.

Has anyone tried using this idea? Using one age group to cause another age group to purchase

It is an interesting concept, I think it is a good idea, we do need to be innovative, exploring opportunities like this one to continue to be viable businesses.
